Friday Favorites: First Trimester Edition

Happy Friday, Everyone!! Only a couple more hours and it will be the weekend, and I hope you all have a fantastic one!  I’m planning to get everything I need to get done on Saturday so that I can complete laze on Sunday… a day curled up with GG sounds like exactly what the doctor ordered after a stressful week at work.

You all know I love to share when it comes to my favorite things that I stumble upon, and thought it would be fun to do a post about what I couldn’t live without during my first trimester.  (I have a sneaking suspicion that many of these will also be on my second trimester list, because I have fallen that much in love with them.)  Hope you enjoy!

Bump Nest Pregnancy Pillow

This pillow was B’s Valentine’s gift for me and he really hit it out of the park with this one.  I almost immediately had difficulty sleeping, and B got tired of me stealing all the pillows was concerned, so he did a ton of research and found this highly rated pregnancy pillow.  At only 5’3″, the long end of this product wraps almost the entire length of my body and provides amazing support for my back.  It was a total lifesaver!

Billy’s Gluten Free Carrot Cake Cupcakes

I don’t know what it is, but I’m obsessed with carrot cake lately.  Billy’s Bakery has a location a few blocks from B’s office so he brings me home this treat about once a week – sooo good!

With gluten free tortillas, this easy to make dinner was a go-to during my first trimester when I was too exhausted to cook a real meal.  For added protein I would spread a layer of fat free refried beans, and of course because I love everything spicy, I had to include some sriracha!

Waterfall Sweaters

Lucky for me, my first trimester was in the dead of winter, so layering up to hide my growing bump didn’t cause any second looks.  Most people at work were honestly shocked when I told them how far along I was!  Waterfall sweaters are universally flattering – I’ve written about how much I love them here– so it was an easy choice for me once my body started changing.Cardi Collage USE2


Even when I couldn’t drag myself out the door to exercise during the week, making it to my weekend CrossFit session was a must.  My coaches were fantastic with me, and I found myself feeling much better after getting in my sweat sessions.

Maternity Clothes

I am of the school of thought that you should buy maternity clothes early and often so that you can get the most use of them during your pregnancy.  That, and let’s face it, life is too short to be uncomfortable!  That being said, I don’t want to spend a ton on my maternity clothes since I know they will only be temporary, so I’ve employed my savvy shopper skills and found some amazing deals online.  Old Navy in particular has been a great source for jeans, leggings, and work pants, and they are running a sale right now using the code BESTEVER ($30 off of $75 online).    I personally love their Pixie pants whether I’m pregnant or not.

    Oh yeah, he was the cause of my need, duh!

    If I am post menopausal, why am I “coveting” those carrot cupcakes???– my second favorite ever since a beautiful young lady introduced me to red velvet ones.

    Somehow, my favorite breakfast when pregnant was a poached egg sitting on a slice of muenster cheese sitting on a slice of whole wheat bread. Hellooooooo tasty and filling.
