5 Month Update: Strong is the New Skinny

Recently, I posted a Tweet that I think is a perfect theme for this month’s update.

My hands are calloused, my body is bruised, & my muscles are sore, but I’ve never been stronger than today. #crossfit #strongisthenewskinny

While I wrote this about CrossFit, it equally applies across the board to my WLS experience.  It has not always been easy, but I am better today than I have ever been.  I am feeling stronger than ever as I quickly approach the 6 month mark, and am incredibly proud of my progress.  I still have things to work on, but I feel like I am down to a healthy weight and am consistently excited to see what this new body can do.

Since my 3 Month Check-In, I’ve made working out a priority.  As I mentioned in previous posts, I’ve had some issues with stalling, and thought that the fitness component would be the key to break through.  Currently, I’m doing CrossFit 2 – 4 times a week, and adding in some random weight training and cardio on the in-between days.  Eating healthy has also been a focus for my family, and I have been having so much fun experimenting with recipes, like my EZ Green Curry and Chocolate Cherry Chia Pudding.

Personally, I’m damn proud to say that I think the differences are striking.  Here are my before & after pictures, which were taken just prior to surgery and this weekend. Surgery Update - 5 Months

Looking forward towards the next month, I’m hoping to continue my focus on fitness and food.  Specifically, I can’t wait to experiment with my new Vitamix blender and try out a new CrossFit workout called Kettlebell Sport – both of which you know I’ll share!  I also want to make hydration my goal for the month and do my best to consume more water on a daily basis.  The squat challenge went well – check out my ass in this plank (eee!) – so, as Jay Z says, I’m “on to the next one.”
